Our love affair with
full slips is long and enduring. The most famous of all is the
one worn in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof." Don't we all want
to be Maggie the Cat sometimes?
Very few lingerie items
say glamour like the vintage full slip,
so slinky, sleek and sexy we can picture ourselves in front of
our vanity table being a movie queen or lady of the manor. We
feel so elegant in a full slip. Full or whole slips come in all
lengths from mini to long formal. Fabrics run the gamut from
nylon, rayon, silk, satin and taffeta to blends proprietary to
the maker.
Styles are simple to
elaborate. With gathers, pleats, ruffles, chemise or fitted,
there is a vintage slip to fit every desire and need. The trims
range from simple stitching or sheer edgings to fantastic lace,
chantilly, net lace, tiny lace, wide lace, ruching, sheer and
lace pleats. Everything from the basic to the sublime.
The most well known makers
were Vanity Fair and Van Raalte, but by no means were they the
only ones making fantastic full slips during the golden era of
lingerie. Others were Gotham Gold Stripe, Movie Star, Munsingwear,
Lorraine, Gossard Artemis, Barbizon and Fischer, whose specialties
were silk slips.
We have attempted to
include the finest examples of each and every kind of vintage
full slip in our collection, and in as many sizes as possible.
Please join us in our love affair with the vintage full slip. |
