This fabulous 1940s white
chenille coat can also be worn as a bathing suit coverup, no
matter how you wear it you will be noticed. There are lots of
chenille robes floating around vintage land but this is the first
chenille coat I have ever seen and I was around when it was new.
The condition is excellent with some rust spot/dots at the inside
back neck, 2 have become tiny holes. They are not easily seen
outside without moving aside the chenille and do not affect wearability
or beauty. The size is generous and looks great on anyone from
a 34 to 40 bust, the length measured from the shoulder is 40".
The fabric is a medium weight cotton with the older original
type 1" spacing between the rows, I do not see any damage
or missing tufts. The design and placement of the chenille is
what gives this coat it's high style appearance. The entire outer
edges and sleeves of the coat are finished with 3 rows of chenille,
the sleeves are constructed of diagonol rows of chenille. There
are shoulder pads in the sleeves giving that 1940s wide shoulder
look. The front of the coat is also of diagonal rows and the
back is arranged in a chevron pattern. There are two U shaped
pockets on the front that feature a circular pattern of chenille.
This is a rare one of a kind chenille coat perfect for the collector
or the fashionista that only wears what no one else can have.
